Kind Words for Chartreuse Landscaping Design

We were impressed with Lisa’s work at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show and contacted her after she was also highly recommended by a friend. We were so happy to have found her. From the initial contact to the completed landscape, she was always dependable, enthusiastic, and easy to work with. Lisa is a knowledgeable, creative designer who presented us with a uniquely beautiful concept for our previously chaotic backyard space. She listened to our ideas, then communicated a vision for how the space could be lived in, and viewed from our house and deck. Her design uses the repetition of a large variety of plants laid out in a slightly formal, geometric, calming plan, which we love. The incorporation of steel forms terraced the grade and created a structural element that helps define the space. The quality of work provided by her professional crew was exceptional. Throughout the process Lisa was accessible and remained involved in all aspects of the project. We highly recommend her.

Lisa Bauer helped us transform the backyard of our sweet (900 sft) Portage Bay craftsman from a flat muddy grass rectangle to a wonderful outdoor room that in warm weather months doubled the size of our home. The mix of plant textures, colors and layout are inspired. In addition to designing the right mix of plants for us Lisa has a great eye for the hardscape and lighting details that really made a difference. The moment we enter our garden we smile (in any weather) because it looks fabulous all the time. Lisa was extremely professional, creative and a joy to work with.

The key with our garden was creating a design to fit the style of our house and our modern tastes, dealing with the towering new house to the north, creating entertaining spaces with a fire pit while keeping all our existing hardscapes to make the budget work. It was important to get it right because we had lost time with another designer. We were on plan #2 and we needed to get it done and in so we could use our garden for a big event. Lisa made it all happen, and seamlessly! Working with the right contractor and collaboration with us made things go perfectly. We are so thrilled with the outcome and highly recommend working with Lisa.

Our front yard remodel with Chartreuse Designs was beyond our expectations. Lisa has fantastic ideas for design, both plants and hardscapes. She also has great connections to subcontractors that made for a very smooth and timely project. People walking down the street stop and often say they love the way out garden looks.

Lisa Bauer is a talented landscape designer that listens to and assesses the desires of her clients while balancing their lifestyle and budget. She has a wealth of experience and continues to educate herself.

She has designed and guided us through two projects: one in the front of the house in 2014, and the most recent one (2018) in our backyard. Both times, she has provided an engaging yet practical vision and organized the steps to achieving completion of living spaces that exceeded our expectations.

Before the project in 2014, we wouldn’t spend time in our front yard. We only spent time cropping the foliage that had come with the house. But we do now! Lisa combined a passion for growing vegetables with a much-needed hardscape upgrade and an evergreen and perennial plant palette. She designed a yard with structural “bones” that would engage interest throughout the year, yet left space for the whimsical aspect that we enjoy. The centerpiece of the “yard” (no grass now!) is a raised vegetable bed with bench seats on two sides, a natural invitation for taking time to slow down and relax. We constantly receive comments from strangers on the ingenuity and beauty of the space.

During the Spring and Summer of 2018, Lisa worked with us to transform our backyard, a 20-year dream. She sourced a local deck building company, and while that was being designed and permitted, designed new living space for us, from top to bottom. With only a few specifics in mind, we stood back so she could create a landscape that she felt would best work in the space while integrating aspects of the front yard for unity. She developed a plan with elements we never would have thought of.

With a design in place, she connected us with a full service landscape contractor. During the time they transformed our yard, she was the liaison between us and the two contractors, visiting our house regularly to keep up to date on the progress and target dates. There were only a few items that needed to be changed, and Lisa was able to present a number of creative alternatives, with the budget, time and our tastes in mind.

When the yard was nearing completion, Lisa sourced the plantings she had chosen and worked with the contractor to make sure they were placed accordingly. She will be following up with us to make sure everything is working well and that the plants are doing well.

In the end, we couldn’t be happier, as the yard design is far beyond what we could ever have imagined. It’s accessible, livable, and made for family and friend gatherings, which we are anxious to make happen. Time to show it off!

As her neighbor, I was well aware of Lisa Bauer’s passion for garden and design long before I hired her to transform my childhood home.

I observed her garden grow and design skills evolve over a long time, in varying displays of gasp-worthy beauty and unexpected, delightful whimsey. And I observed too, many of Lisa’s landscape design projects once her passion became her profession - Chartreuse Landscape Design. Inspired and inspiring, Lisa Bauer is gifted. It is how she merges that giftedness with the pragmatic matters of landscape design that reveals her exceptional professional capacity. Devoting her heart, her mind and her time to our project as if it were her own, Lisa softened the severe lines of our midcentury modern home by bringing the house into the garden through arbors and trellises, transforming the whole house, not just the garden space. Lisa’s eye-catching plant choices keep the garden vibrant throughout all four seasons. Her compelling hardscape designs create the adventure of separate garden rooms, inviting their diverse uses. Throughout the project, Lisa worked closely with her contractors to ensure the smallest detail - as well as her overall vision - were implemented in the best possible way. And, she worked closely with me, listening carefully to every question and comment - never losing sight of my goals, my budget or the impact of this garden transformation on my own heart.
